Time to move on from GTO. Great week and a fantastic town but there's more to see.

4 hour-246 KM drive over mainly toll roads. In Mexico there is always a free road paralleling (sort of) the toll road. Sometimes the free road is better than the toll. Toll roads can be expensive. Today we spent 604 pesos ($34.70) so that counts as expensive. But. The free road goes through small towns with traffic and speed bumps (Topes). In the mountains you find yourself behind slow trucks with no way to pass. Even using the toll roads for part of the way we still only averaged 40MPH. We rationalized today by saying that we would have probably spent and extra $35 in gas with all the stop and go...and an extra hour. On the toll road we kicked back and watched the amazing beautiful scenery go by. It was a beautiful drive. The only downside was trying to get around the big city of Morelia. It wasn't a big deal, just heightened alert for traffic and finding the turns.
Before we got on the toll road we saw a zillion stands selling strawberries. Somewhere we read that this area is where strawberries sold in the US are grown (e.g., the Driscoll's brand). Well here they were. We paid only $1.74 for these (3 doz or so), including the handmade basket!
We arrived at Rancho La Mesa RV Park (
LINK) at about 1400. Wow! I'll never get Robin away from here! Not only the view of the town but the view of the 2 day old burro and his mom grazing right in front of us!
After getting settled we had a fantastic meal at the on-site restaurant. These dishes could be featured in the classiest of restaurants anywhere. All this plus 2 margaritas, beer, and coffee for $22.50 (+ tip)!
By the way, the RV park is $101 for a week with full hookups, wifi, and this view! (250 pesos - $14.43/night) For fellow RV'ers: access is no longer like described in the Church Book because Jersey barriers have been placed blocking the left turn. Proceed straight for about 1/2 mile and pull to the right at the Returno and wait for traffic to do the U turn. Plenty of room for big rigs. For GPS, enter these coordinates, 19.494598, -101.590016, the entrance to the road that leads to the grounds. Stay on the road (very rough) until the park. Make an immediate left after entering. You do not want to follow the route that Maps will give you through the city. It is ok for a car but not for a rig of any size.
