Another Day in Matehuala

Yesterday was a rainy, cold day. We even pulled the heater out of storage. Just read and researched options of where to go in the coming weeks.

Forgot to mention that we bought oranges. How about 40 oranges for around $2.80? And they are delicious!

Oh, and no, you don't drink the water in many places. The Mexicans don't either. So folks have jugs of water in their residence. Look what we found. Hand painted and fired. $22.

We enjoy this RV Park/Hotel. Very affordable and excellent wifi. Some pictures

That's a miniature golf course on the left

That's us! There was an Airstream here last night.

We've decided to stay at least another 2 days so we can see this town and also go see a historic town of Real de Cartorce. See Wiki LINK  Of note Wiki says: "Several major commercial motion pictures have been filmed in Real including Bandidas (featuring Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz), The Mexican (featuring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts), and some scenes of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (featuring Humphrey Bogart), and of Puerto Escondido, directed by Gabriele Salvatores."

But that's tomorrow. Today we see Matehuala. USA Today writes about the town HERE

We saw the main cathedral

The market

The big brown bowl (about $17) almost got bought but we don't have anyplace for it

Here you go Katherine Gaskill! They had fancy ones inside

Hats galore

Made locally

The veggies and fruit are beautiful

Pick the pieces of chicken you want. They also have pre wrapped

Cactus. They scrape the thorns off and its used in many dishes

Walmart!
Spotlessly clean and modern

Bakery. You pick up a pan and tongs and select the items you want. A clerk (wearing a face mask) prices and bags your products. We bought a lot for less that $2.

$59 is not US dollars. It is pesos. They use the $ sign. About 18 pesos to the dollar

Late lunch. Steak, shrimp, margaritas, etc for less than $25.

That's our day and it was a great one.

  2. Looks like you guys have the hang of it! Very happy to see you're going to Real de Catorce. You'll love it. So much history. Stay away from the peyote. I don't think it will be ready anyway for another two to four weeks!
