Getting Ready to go South of the Border (and not the one in South Carolina)

Today is just last minute shopping and getting border documentation ready. Like borders everywhere, you never know. An internet RV friend prefaces his tips blog with this:

  • DISCLAIMER: Although I believe this information was correct when I wrote it, and may still be correct when you cross the border, you have to watch out for what I call the "Red Clown Nose Contingency" (RCNC). If your situation is the least bit out of the ordinary, you run the risk of allowing the border official to deviate from his normal routine. And no matter what the rules say, the official standing in front of you has the final say. So if he says that you have to be wearing a Red Clown Nose to get across then, unless you have immediate access to someone higher in the food chain, you better start looking for a costume shop!

Shopping is minimal because Mexican stores have pretty much everything we have and then some. Many Mexican super markets make Whole Foods etc look bad. Walmart's and Sam's look just like ours.

Had to stop by Mumphords BBQ palace again. My buddy the Pit Master was there doing his magic. We told a few lies and bid farewell for this trip.

I forgot to post pictures of this CG. Almost all of the occupied sites are by Snowbirds for the entire winter and construction folks. Very nice people all and the place is kept very neat.
Two Streets Like This One

Us
We'll drive about 4 hours to the border at Reynosa-Hidalgo. It takes about an hour to get the car import and visa papers done. Then about 3.5 hours to Bahia Escondida LINK

Contact info: Crossing the border tomorrow at around noon.  From noon Friday, at least for a few days, Robin’s phone will be off the air. To contact us, call Steve’s cell or send emails/texts. Since we will be using a Verizon plan that uses our USA allowances we will have plenty of talk, text, and data allowances. Not sure how good the coverage will be once we get further in country. We may change Robin’s phone to a Mexican SIM card for better coverage.

What have we learned? Small town America is neat. Exploring these reveals beautiful neighborhoods and hard working people that don't care about Washington.

Hasta luego!!!
