Heading on to Guanajuato

Leisurely departure from San Miguel this morning heading to Guanajuato WIKI It was a easy 90 minute ride through beautiful countryside. Pictures can't do it justice.

BTW, we gassed up on the way here. It's great getting gas here because the stations are usually huge and easy to get an RV in and out. Plus they pump it. Price was $2.83/gal. Gas in Mexico is usually cheaper than the US but not now.

We found Buganville RV Park easily and were greeted graciously by Carlos, the owner. What a great host. We already love it here. Full hookups for 280 pesos ($15.80)! No wifi but it is coming. Our Verizon hot spot is working fine. Restaurant on premises but closed on Mondays.

 We just cleaned up and kicked back. Tomorrow we'll start touring what appears to be a lovely city. Quick pictures of the park...they do not do the view justice. We are the only rig here...the animals enjoy the freedom. Many snowbirders are already heading home.

Why Bother?

I've done two other blogs of travels and should have learned but I don't. I've learned that folks, even dear family, not actually on the trip, for the most part, simply, don't care. I've resolved myself to using the blog as a repository for the next trip and for that, it is invaluable. I've found parks I wanted to re-visit from 2006 just by looking at the old blogs.

That said, it is hard to sit down and burn Verizon data to post stuff that very few (it seems) reads. At my advanced age it is tough to restrain myself when a beloved family member/friends asks where we are? Robin is so patient and she is so kind. Ole grumpy says/thinks: oh, you haven't read the blog it seems, or you'd know. Robin's approach is right.

Whine over. If you read and like and don't want to comment publicly, at least send an email. It will inspire me.

Last Day in San Miguel de Allende (SMA)

Woke up to fireworks in the distance at 0600 celebrating the Resurrection. We loafed around a bit and then hit the road.

First stop was a huge market on the other side of town. We parked in the Soriana lot and did a hike there (I am losing weight with all this walking). The market was fun but it was really more of a flea market than the traditional markets. Of course we ate. 2 nice guys fixed us up with 5 delicious tacos with all the trimmings and 1 soda: total cost---60 pesos or $3.40....TOTAL!!! We skipped dinner because we were still full. We watched it get cooked and it was tasty.

On the way down the hill we found a pull out that gives a panoramic view of SMA. The picture still doesn't do it justice, but you get the idea.

Following yet another fantastic recommendation from Chris, we drove back past the RV park to the small village of Atotonilco. Wiki has a great write up on it HERE Turns out it is a UN World Heritage town housing a church from the 18th Century that is called the Sistine Chapel of Mexico. Look at the ceilings.

Goodbye Party (SMA)

Yesterday was the last one for the gang in SMA. We offered to host a goodbye dinner. Fantastic evening yet sad. These are great people and friends. Until next year's trip! Or maybe they will come to NC?  Again, Juan took all the pictures.

Another Amazing Day (SMA)

Yeah, again. Amazing. I'm going to cheat and link to Juan/Croft/Chris's sites.

They picked us up at 0830 and we did a short drive to La Gruta water park  LINK. The many pools are fed by thermal underground sources. We started with breakfast there and then found a table. These pictures were taken by Juan.

There were only a zillion folks there. The pools are constantly being refreshed and super warm. A neat thing was a very small water tunnel that led to an amazing grotto where you got heat in the air and the hot water...a true spa. You had to go through the long dark tunnel with 2 way traffic in the water to get to it. There were only a half a zillion people in the tunnel and huge domed room with only small sky lights providing illumination. Awesome. Juan brought his phone and gave me permission to use his.

At about 1300 we went to the birthplace of Mexico more than 200 years ago, the city of Delores Hildago. What a beautiful town and cathedral. Father Hidalgo started the Mexican Revolution 200+ years ago by ring the bells on this cathedral. Oh and the town is famous for its ice cream. Yummy.
