"I Could Definitely Live Here"

The title of this post is something Robin has said over and over again. Of course she means except for being too far from the girls. I'm so glad she is so enthusiastic about here. I was afraid I had oversold it.

We stayed around the RV until about 1300 and the set out on a solo adventure since Chris and Juan are at work. First stop was Santiago where we ended up in a fantastic restaurant in a beautiful hotel. Robin said her margarita was the best one she ever had. We ordered a house side salad expecting something small. A huge platter appeared with avocado, olives, cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc. Then came the main courses: huge plates of pork for Robin and goat for me, with all the trimmings. We ended with a delicious flan and coffee. Total Tab including tip $48!

We walked through the hotel lobby area afterwards. Beautiful.

Then a visit to the town church.

We then visited a market and bought 5 pieces of ceramic for about $22. Easily over a hundred in the US. Then to a Soriana grocery store and bought some stuff. Amazingly inexpensive and they had everything we're used to in a Food Lion and much more.

Finally we stopped at a nearby cemetery. Note the elaborate resting places. We need some info from Juan on what is behind all this.

That's it. TV night and a departure tomorrow across the mountains for a 4 hour drive to Matehuala.

  1. It is common for extended families to gather in Mexican cemeteries, using gravestones as picnic tables in order to include the dead in family activities.

  3. You and Juan really helped with the Mexico introductions to Robin and we're fired up to continue the adventure. Think we'll climb a mountain in a few hours. See you in SMA! There will be a Plan B or C or d....
