Did a short tour of part of Gringolandia by visiting Ajijic (WIKI LINK) today. Not sure we heard a word of Spanish. Signs and menus in English. That can be good except that it makes you lazy and you stop trying to learn the language.
That rant out of the way, it is a delightful town. We parked away from Centro (no spaces) and as we were walking back we stumbled on a delightful Italian restaurant: Pasta Trenta. It was fantastic in decor, staff, and cuisine. I didn't get many pictures because fellow diners had a severely handicapped daughter and I didn't want to upset anything.
Then we walked around town and visited some shops. Nice stuff but we've seen the same things at much better prices in our earlier travels.
Then we drove through some neighborhoods. We were definitely in the ritzy part. Pictures don't do it justice esp because it is common here to have a bare wall blocking view of the palatial grounds and houses. From what we have seen on the WWW, most of these were in the $500K + range.
We enjoyed the day. More to see so we'll stay here for 2 weeks rather than 1. We haven't even gotten to Guadalajara yet.
