Today we drove about 4 hours from Tucson to Williams, Arizona. The route was all Interstate via Phoenix and Flagstaff. Great roads. Beautiful climbing to 7,000 Ft between Phoenix and Flagstaff. What a shock we we arrived: 60 degrees and we left 90+ in Tucson. The night got into the 30's.
We have booked a train trip from Williams to the Grand Canyon for tomorrow (Thursday). They have a fantastic campground and even a very nice kennel to board the animals during the all day trip. Here's a link: LINK
Williams is on Route 66 and is another place that we should have allowed more time to visit. Next time.
The train trip starts with a hokey "cowboy" show at 0900. Kids liked so it was a good thing.
Then board the train. Brought back memories for me since this is what I rode many times in my youth since Dad worked for the Seaboard Railroad.
Train takes 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to the Canyon. Travel is through ever changing terrain and scenery. We enjoyed it.
Then we're there for 3 hours. As always, the pictures don't do it justice.
Then the trip home.
The campground
Great trip and highly recommend it. There is a nice hotel that is part of the train operation if you don't RV.
Missed this post somehow. What a day! Had no idea you could take a train!!! That would have been better than the tiny bumpy ten seater airplane we took! What views!! And I adore the picture of the two of you with the grand Canton behind you!!
