Turning the Corner and Heading Down

For the first time since leaving Cedar Island back on 18 Feb, we're heading North. We went West to Charlotte and then down through SC, GA, LA, and TX. Since we crossed into Mexico on 4 March, we've been going South. Today we turn North and start working our way up the West coast for an eventual crossing into Nogales, Arizona on 20 May. Also we have been at more than 5,000 feet altitude for much of 2 months. Now we're going to sea level.

And, Robin will see the Pacific Ocean for the first time in her life!

All this is bittersweet because while we have new things to see for much of the month, it also means our Mexican journey is winding down.

We left Tepic at 1015. Mostly toll roads so it was a great, easy ride. We gassed before we left and the station was a little tight so we did not hook up the Saturn until afterwards. Just as the lady was topping me off, a Federale (National Police) pulled his car exactly where I needed to back in to. Robin was standing near to guide me when the policeman rolled down his window. Robin expected him to say something in Spanish, but no, in perfect (but accented) English asked her if she wanted him to move. She was taken aback but answered that I could get around him. He wished us well for the trip.

Some last views of Tepic from the Pemex station

Little tight fit but no problem
Man did we see avocado trees! They are everywhere and go on for miles and miles.

We're got down to sea level. Big change from the last few months

The small town that we had to go through...if that honker bus can make it, so can I.

It's great seeing where our produce comes from. Near this campground it is still avocados but also miles and miles of chilies and small tomatoes.

We arrived in Teacapan LINK  at Color Marino RV park at about 1330, so 3 hours. LINK. 215 KM (133 miles) so 70KM/hour or 44 MPH Average.  Tolls were expensive, but worth it: 945 pesos or $52.63. Cost here at the park is 250 pesos or $13.92. Full hookups, awesome wifi, pool, and on the beach.

I was here 10 years ago. We are the only RV. There are some folks staying in the little houses.

Sucks. Beach is crowded. Why don't those 3 people go somewhere else?
We got settled in and went a few miles up the road to Teacapan for late lunch. This is a poor town. Guessing that most of the people work in the fields. They do have a beautiful malecon along the waterfront but the other roads are dirt.

The restaurant was great. All these fresh shrimp etc for about $18. They sell oysters on the side of the road. Table next to us was a crew of sailors from a patrol boat that were armed to the teeth. The military prefer to not be photographed.

Then back to the RV. Nothing to look at:
And the clouds are going to make the sunset suck

  2. The good thing about the trip is now Robin knows what to expect from Mexico and will be anxious to come back again soon. Enjoy the next month, one day at a time.

  3. Yeah, terrible views and sunsets, plus the overcrowded beaches. No idea how you could stand it.
