Grumpy in Mazatlan

Grumpy you ask? How can that be? Because this time next week we'll be at the border. Sure we want to see family and friends but we're really going to miss Mexico and her wonderful people.

We're also going to miss taking 10 kilos of laundry to a place and they wash and beautifully fold it for $12 (that's high but it is Mazatlan...it would normally be about $6). That's one thing we did today. Our last time for this trip. :-(

Oh, and since this is Grigolandia, there aren't guys in every parking lot offering to wash (and wax) your car like there is everywhere else we've been. And they do a great job! Here, there is a car wash done all by hand. They essentially detailed it in and out for $5!, plus tip. Car has never looked this good.

Then we drove around. High rise condos everywhere. This is a hotel right around the corner from the RV park!!! We checked on the internet and it is $175/night....PER PERSON!!!! The Mexican people we've met over the last 2+ months are not staying here.

Today we drove into the Centro historic district. Interesting but relatively new from what we're used to. This beautiful, awesome, cathedral "only" dates from 1875. We're used to the 1600's! But it is gorgeous!

We ate at a popular Mexican chain restaurant. Ok but nothing special except I had dinner with Robin and that is always special. This is their pastry area. Interestingly to us is really sweet pastries are hard to find.

Oh, and we went into Senor Frog's. Just because.
Did I mention I was in a grumpy mood? Tomorrow we either do 5 hours driving or 9, depending on how we feel. The next leg has no real RV park at the normal 5 hour point of Los Mochis. If we're tired we'll dry camp at a gas station. If we're feeling good, we'll press on to the Colonial Mining town of Alamos. Good news is that it is mostly toll roads (i.e., sort of like Interstate) in flat desert terrain so we should be able to average 50 MPH or so.

Bye Mazatlan. We enjoyed it and have fond memories. Any negativity is because we're spoiled by what we saw in the Colonial Highlands. And, this ain't Mexico. And, we didn't see Captain Merrill Stubing...or even Gopher.
